I hit a deer on the highway last night
to the tune of Atlantic City by Bruce Springsteen
Well I flew up a street deer on the highway last night
And then it, flew up - right in my mind too
I’m staring - into the red-bright darkness tapping the break
And he was - getting ready for some breaking true
Now there’s a Jersey plate racing next to me
and the left lane can’t get no relief
gonna be a - rumble out on the interstate
actually - more of a loud crash-bump then grief
Everything dies baby that’s a fact
But maybe everything that dies - someday comes back
I put my flashers on - [Jake] fixed our headlight pretty
and I weeped my way to Philadelphia city

Well we got to our stop and sorted my guilt away
But I got new debts that no woman can pay
So I drew out the crash in my head forty times
Though it didn’t soften the blow to my mind
Everything dies baby that’s a fact
But maybe everything that dies - someday comes back
I try a new breathing technique, smudge my mascara pretty
and I weep again in my Philly city

Now our luck may have died and our bumper now holed
But with a tender hand from my passenger seat I’ll stay
I now like to think he’s somewhere turned into white dots n gold
So I switch my hopeful mind on - but I’m still in sorrow’s firm hold
Everything dies, baby that’s a fact
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back
𓃴 ♬♪
Now I been lookin’ for a sign but it’s hard to find
All the time there’s winners and losers getting caught on that side of the white line
Well I think i’ve hit a bird before but it flew right into my wheel
It’s just I saw the second thought in his eyes as I ridded us of a median crash n rear-end smash but not him
I guess everything dies, baby that’s a fact
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back
I put my okay face on, I pick his hair off with pity,
for he meets his old friends up in Street Deer City
to the deer I hit - I am so very sorry and I will remember you
to everyone else - be careful when you drive
